After giving it a lot of though, I decided to take another pass on Nano this year. I had a couple of ideas - both completely different from what I've done in previous years and not the tiniest bit of fanfic in either of them - but I just don't feel I have the time or, more importantly, the energy to devote to such an intense level of writing at this time. Lately I've barely had the energy to read the posts from my flist over on LJ! (and I still haven't decided on a name for my journal here!)

The Nano style of writing is totally opposite the way I prefer to write, rushing to get the words down before the month is out, turning off my self editor, not bothering with polishing until the whole thing is totally finished. I like to write in longhand first, getting the basics down, then type it up, polishing a bit along the way and then revise, giving it more of a polish. Nano style feels so... sloppy. Yet, it does get results. The stories that I've started my preferred way are not anywhere close to being finished but the Nano novels actually had beginnings, middles and ends (more or less... the first one was actually a couple chapters shy of being finished but I did make my word count!) Unfortunately, it also put me off writing for a long time. I was so burned out that I just couldn't face another stint trying to work out a story, no matter how much I wanted to tell that story.

Your reasons for not doing NANO are some of my own as well. Since the last NANO you participated in put you off writing to that extent, I don't blame you in the least for not participating again, I wouldn't either at that rate.
